Why is proper digestion important and how do I know that my GI tract's health is intact?

A well known French lawyer, politician and author of the 19th century, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), wrote: "Digestion is one of the most delicately balanced of all human and perhaps angelic functions".  Julia Child (1912-2004), a much beloved culinary diva of the past and present has wisely pointed out: "Because of the media hype and woefully inadequate information, too many people nowadays are deathly afraid of their food, and what does fear of food do to the digestive system? I am sure that an unhappy or suspicious stomach, constricted and uneasy with worry, cannot digest properly. And if digestion is poor, the whole body politic suffers".

As we live in our society we continue hearing news about heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, underactive thyroid function, artery blockages, renal insufficiencies, heartburn, chronic back pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoporosis, obesity, and the list goes on and on.  Have you not heard of or experienced any of these diseases at least once a day?!  Sadly, we accept these conditions as a normal course of aging, pregnancy, life in general... We "deal" with these conditions, we "live" with them!  Better yet, we take pills to help us deal with them. Very few of us draw the direct connection between the foods we consume and the diseases or health we experience.  Most physicians gladly put their patients on a medication, a quick fix, to mask the ill affects of the disease and send them on their way, never once questioning, really questioning, their food choices.  That's what most of us are, - "patients" - those who patiently and blindly accept and trust the medical advice of our family physicians and specialists, who "know" our health better than we do!  The only connection we draw between these diseases  and nutrition is the amount of saturated fats and cholesterol we consume in the relationship to heart disease and obesity, the amount of sugar we consume in the relationship to diabetes, the amount of calcium we have in our diet to maintain bone health, etc.  Many of these connections are at best incomplete and at worst completely incorrect

The piece that most of us tend to miss is the process of digestion itself... We stuff our body with "make-belief" foods, with synthetic supplements, "health foods" with every buzz word known to us plastered on their labels and we hope that our digestive tract will extract what is needed for our body and discard what is waste.  Or do most of us even think that far?  The truth is, most of us have inadequate digestive systems and rotting food in our guts and our blood stream!  We belch and burp, we pop antacids and cholesterol lowering drugs on a daily basis, we cut out saturated fats and cholesterol-rich foods out of our diets, we religiously have our cereal or just coffee in the mornings, we eat well into the night, we categorize our foods into breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, beans give us gas... we got it all down to a science...  Poor science that is.  In the meantime our systems are so depleted of nutrients that our organs and tissues are functioning on borrowed time, we are depressed, overwhelmed with living, and we accept disease and stress as "facts of life"!  If you belch, feel bloated, experience heartburn and/or flatulence on a regular basis,  struggle with unpleasant breath odor, feel fatigued and/or depressed throughout your day, have diminished appetite or crave certain tastes (like sweets) on a regular basis, you digestion is in need of serious help!

The good news is, we can restore our digestive health through simple adjustments and learning experiences.  I encouraged you to invest in your health by paying attention to your food choices, their preparation methods, by learning about the process of digestion from unbiased, honest sources, and by spending time with your meals!  Something as simple as relaxation during a meal can make all the difference in the way your body digests food.  Consuming quality ingredients in your meals is an absolute must!  Real food nourishes.  Real meal preparation requires attention and effort.  We need to spend more time in our own kitchens and around our own meal tables as families and less time (or none at all) in restaurants and fast food drives.  Include fermented drinks and vegetable dishes in your daily meals to restore the normal flora of your gut and to boost your immune system.  Protect yourself from toxins and malnutrition by choosing nutrient-dense foods from trusted, local farmers, who produce clean produce, quality raw dairy, quality eggs and meat.  Avoid using junk oils such as canola oil (rapeseed oil), safflower oil, and cottonseed oil, for example.  Include healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil (for salads), butter from healthy pasture-fed cows, and saturated fats from healthy and well-treated animals.  Avoid pre-packaged, commercially prepared, boxed, and canned foods whenever possible.  Take time to plan ahead and prepare your grains by soaking them overnight prior to consuming them.  Get familiar with making simple broths and soups and consume them on a daily basis to restore the health of your digestive tract.  If you need to supplement, choose your supplements wisely.  It is best to stay away from all supplements in a pill form and consume only food-based (never synthetically engineered), excipient-free supplements.  Steer clear of white sugar and white flour, - eating them will rob you of your life!   Limit your sweets to an occasional teaspoon of raw local honey (never heated or over-processed) in your tea, a splash of organic Grade B maple syrup on your acorn squash or a few drops of stevia leaf extract in a raw milkshake, for example!  Avoid purchasing and consuming conventional produce, - it robs you and our planet of health!  Reach out, question, learn... be an educated consumer and accept responsibility for your own health and disease.

If you have any questions, seek additional guidance about any of the suggestions I made above or would like to learn in one of the classes I teach, please contact me.  I am happy to help in any way I can!

Why eat clean/organic foods?

While there are claims that conventional produce has the same amount of nutrients as organic produce, these claims cannot be further from the truth.  Toxic chemicals, denatured proteins, stripped vitamins and genes that do not belong to the species of the food you consume are not considered to be nutrients.  These health-robbing ingredients are found in virtually all non-organic foods on the market today.  Organic food is  not genetically modified in any way (meaning that you don't have to worry about eating a plant with human or animal genes in it or eating an animal with plant, viral or bacterial genes in it, etc.) and it is grown without the use of toxic chemical pesticides, germicides, fertilizers, antibiotics and growth hormones.  With this said, please be aware that even in organic farming certain non-organic fertilizers, chemicals and pesticides may be used.  Even organic ingredients can be unhealthy, for example organic soy milk, organic agave syrup or organic white flour are not health-giving foods simply because of their molecular structure and natual properties.  Irrigation methods also have a significant impact on how "clean" organic crops may be.  Organic farming is compliant with very strict regulations set by the National Organic Program, which carries out organic certification and is run by the USDA.  Organic certification is known to be a very expensive and extensive process, not always suitable for the needs and funds of small farmers.  Therefore, there are sources of exquisitely grown foods that are not necessarily certified organic.  Organic products are in general cleaner and better for our health and for the health of our environment than conventionally produced products and foods.  However, small, local farmers who adhere to responsible, respectful, non-toxic, clean methods of food production are likely to be the best source of nutritionally dense, nourishing foods for you and your family, even if they do not have an official organic certification.  Establishing a relationship with a local farmer is highly beneficial and recommended!

A few pearls of wisdom on selecting honey...

Honey is a delicious sweet nectar of the flowers gathered by bees.  These tiny hard workers carry the flower nectar in their "honey sacs" where enzymes begin to digest it.  The bees then deposit their precious cargo into a hexagonal wax cell and the further evaporation and natural heat of the beehive transform the nectar into the delicious honey!  Did you know that a single bee must travel thousands of miles to produce a teaspoon of honey?  The impressive history of honey and its medicinal properties connect the ancient worlds of Egypt and India and the aboriginal cultures of Australia and Americas.  A neolithic rock painting in Spain features a man collecting honey.  This delicious golden treat has been used by many cultures as a powerful medicine, a highly priced commodity in trade and a wholesome gormet ingredient in decadent dishes over thousands of years (and perhaps longer).  I personally prefer honey to any sweetener today.

While it gracefully transcended thousands of years and has been enjoyed by a multitude of cultures all around the world, not all honey available on the shelves of our supermarkets today is wholesome and medicinal.  What you need to know about honey is that it loses its medicinal qualities and its nutritional value when it is heated and filtered.  You should never be able to see through a jar of honey... it is opaque when all of its health-giving constituents are intact.  It should never be heated because heating destroys valuable enzymes in the honey and makes it harder to digest as well as renders it less nutritious.
Buy honey locally to benefit from its protective quality against allergies.  In summary,  the most beneficial to us and to our planet honey is unfiltered, never heated, raw and local.  Use honey to sweeten a warm cup of tea, to make a delicious fruit smoothie, to make daily tonics and and prepare mouthwatering desserts.  One of my favorite uses of honey is in the making of chocolate milk... I use raw organic milk, raw organic cacao powder, honey and spices to prepare this treat and it is a big hit in my home!

I strongly advise you against using corn syrup, white sugar or agave syrup in your diet.  These sweeteners are highly processed and stripped of nutritional value whether they are organic or not.  I do not consider artificial sweeteners such as aspertame, nutrasweet and others to be edible at all... Aside from their unpleasant taste, these sweeteners rob us of our health and should never be consumed for any reason.

Thinking of cutting down on fat and cholesterol to be healthy and trim? Think twice and educate yourself on the roles fats and cholesterol play in our bodies.

While modern medicine suggests the direct relationship between dietary intake of saturated fat and cholesterol and incidence of heart disease, what the general population is unaware of is that the studies behind these suggestions had serious flaws in their design and conclusions.  These flaws were uncovered by many researchers whose work was not influenced by the multibillion dollar vegetable oil and food processing industry. After all, making money on foods that are minimally processed or not processed at all is very diffucult!  Contrary to this sadly popular belief that consumption of fats, especially saturated fats from animal sources, and cholesterol leads to heart disease, hypertension and obesity, I invite you to explore a handful (there are many more) of simple facts about saturated fats and cholesterol:

- Each cell in our body is protected by a cell membrane, a phospholipid bilayer, largely composed of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol.

- In order for our bones to be healthy, calcium must be effectively incorporated into our skeletal systems.  This process requires that at least 50% of our fat intake should be saturated.

- One of the most beneficial to health oils on the planet, coconut oil, is 100% saturated.

- Saturated fats protect our liver, one of the major detoxification organs in our body, from alcohol and toxic substances such as medications and additives in processed foods.

- Saturated fats enhance our immune systems. They possess important antimicrobial properties that protect us from harmful microorganisms in the digestive tract.

- The fat around the heart muscle is highly saturated and the heart draws on this reserve of fat in times of stress.

- Essential fatty acids, such as Omega-3 and Omega-6, are better retained in the tissues when the diet is rich in saturated fats.

- Honestly evaluated scientific evidence reveals that only about 26% of the fat in arterial clogs is saturated. The rest is unsaturated and polyunsaturated.

- Cholesterol is the body's natural healing substance designed to repair vessel walls compromised in a number of possible ways such as irritation caused by free radicals, surges of insulin, prolonged exposure to sugar, etc. The body sends cholesterol to the compromised sites for repair.  Therefore, cholesterol is simply a marker of something unhealthy taking place in the body. Saying that high cholesterol levels in the blood cause heart disease is equivalent to saying that rodents cause garbage and filth!

- Mother's milk, the natural super food for infants, is rich in cholesterol and saturated fat. Both of these nutrients are essential to proper development of babies and children.  Saturated fat and cholesterol are especially important to development of the brain and nervous system.

- The bile salts vital for digestion and assimilation of dietary fats are made from cholesterol.

- Cholesterol is a precursor to vitamin D, a fat-soluble vitamin necessary for healthy bones, nervous systems, proper growth, muscle tone, mineral metabolism, reproductive systems, production of insulin and upregulation of our immune systems.

- Many vital hormones that  help us deal with stress, protect our bodies from  heart disese and cancer, and assure reproductive helth are made from cholesterol.

- Cholesterol is an antioxidant. It protects us against free radical damage that leads to heart disease and cancer.

- Cholesterol is necessary for proper function of serotonin ("feel good" hormone) receptors in the brain. Low cholesterol levels have been linked to depression and suicidal tendencies.

- Dietary cholesterol plays a very important role in maintaining the health of the intestinal wall.

- Poor thyroid function often results in high cholesterol levels. Because this gland's function is usually compromised by a diet high in sugar (look for corn starch and corn syrup on your food labels), low in usable iodine, low in fat-soluble vitamins (A,D,E and K) and other nutrients the body floods the blood with cholesterol as an adaptive and protective mechanism.  So, what adjustments do you think are helpful to your diet if you are dealing with an underactive thyroid gland?

Before you cut back on saturated fats and cholesterol in your diet, educate yourself on the anatomy and physiology of your body and on the roles these two vital nutrients play in our daily lives.  The quality of fat and cholesterol sources is of ultimate importance and you need to choose wisely. Please review the suggested reading materials on this page and consider taking one of the courses I teach to further your nutritional education.

Are vegan and vegetarian diets a ticket to health or deterioration?

Vegan and vegetarian diets have been a rather popular stepping stone in nutrition for people who are concerned about their health and want to learn more.  No wonder that many people turn to these ways of eating in our toxin-ridden world today.  Genetically modified foods, chemically altered foods, inappropriate farming practices and mistreatment of livestock are all factors that contribute to the deterioration of our health and our planet and they are not limited to the United States alone.  Veganism and vegetarianism, when carried out properly with clean, untainted foods and over a short period of time (granted that you are not pregnant, breastfeeding or battling a major health condition), can be very effective in cleansing the body of toxic residues and poorly digested food reminants.  However, neither vegetarianism nor veganism (and especially not veganism) are nutritional paths to sustaining one's complete health and wellbeing of the body and  mind.   I called these two ways of eating "stepping stones" in the first sentence for this same reason.  They can be stepping stones to vibrant health at best when used properly and they are paths of accelerated deterioration and disease when used for a long period of time.   If you have been eating out often, if your diet has been primarily comprised by commerically prepared and/or pre-packaged foods and conventional produce, you may benefit from a short period (several weeks at most) of cleansing by utilizing a vegeterian or vegan diet.  However, numerous studies show that strict vegetarianism and/or veganism over a long period of time is destructive to our health.  Because there is much misinformation traveling the various media channels every second in our culture, many people fall pray to "research" that has never been validated by true science.

Before you make the decision to walk the path of vegetarianism or veganism long term, please consider the following information based on honestly evaluated research that has not been sponsored by food processing companies or groups who have priorities other than your health in mind:

-Dietary cholesterol plays an important role in maintaining the health of the intestinal wall1.  Low-cholesterol vegetarian and cholesterol-free vegan diets can lead to the leaky gut syndrome and other intestinal disorders.

- In his studies of isolated "primitive" peoples, Dr. Weston Price found that those whose diets consisted largely of grains and legumes, while far healthier than civilized moderns, had, nevetheless more caries than those living primarily on meat and fish.  Skulls of prehistoric peoples susisting almost enirely on vegetable foods have teeth containing caries and abscesses and show evidence of bone problems and tubrculosis as well2.

- Inadequate protein intake leads to loss of myocardial muscle (muscle of the heart) and may therefore contribute to coronary heart disease3. Please note that protein cannot be adequately utilized without dietary fats.  That is why protein and fats occur together in eggs, milk, fish and meats.

- Vegetarians and vegans often claim that animal products shorten life span, but the most cursory look at long-lived ethnic groups proves that this is not the case.  Russians from the Caucasus Mountains, an area famous for lengevity, eat lots of fatty meat and whole milk products.  Studies of Soviet Georgian populations show that those who have the most meat and fat in their diets live the longest4. Inhabitants of Vilcabamba in Equador, known for their longevity, consume a variety of animal foods including whole, raw milk and fatty pork.  The long-lived people of Hunza consume animal protein in the form of high-fat goat milk  products.  On the other hand, the vegetarian inhabitants of southern India have one of the shortest life spans in the world5.

- Vegetarian and vegan diets lead to deficiencies in many important minerals.  This is because a largely vegetarian diet lacks the fat-soluble catalysts needed for mineral absorption.  Furthermore, phytic acid in grains blocks absorption of calcium, iron, zinc, copper and magnesium.  Unless your grains are properly prepared to neutralize these phytates, the body may be unable to assimilate these minerals.  Zinc, iron, calcium and other minerals from animal sources are more easily and readily absorbed!  The lack of these minerals in your daily diet should not be underestimated!  For example, even a minor zinc deficiency in pregnant animals results in offpring with deformities, such as club feet, cleft palates, domed skulls and fused and missing ribs.  In humans, zinc deficiency can cause learning disabilities and mental retardation.  In men, zinc depletion decreases fertility.

- Usable vitamin B12 occurs ONLY in animal products.  The body stores a supply of vitamin B12 that can last from two to five years.  When this supply is depleted, B12 deficiency diseases result.  Among such diseases are anemia, impaired eyesight, panic attacks, schizophrenia, hallucinations and nervous disorders, such as weakness, loss of balance and numbness in the hands and feet.  Fermented soy foods and spirulina contain compounds the resemble B12 but these forms are not absorbed by humans because they are not picked up by the "intrinsic factor", a specialized protein secreted in the stomach that allows B12 to be assimilated properly.   The plant forms of B12 may even create B12 deficiencies6.

- Careful examination of mammalian physiology and eating habits reveals that none of the higher animals is strictly vegetarian (and, of course, not ever vegan!).  Even the Gorillas, mistakenly labeled vegetraian, eat insect eggs and larvae that adhere to leaves and fruit.  Cattle and other ruminants can not be labeled vegetarian either because they eat insect life adhering to the plants, and because their stomachs and intestinal tracts contain enormous amounts of protozoa.

- Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant, protecting the body against pollutants and free radicals.  It also stimulates the secretion of gastric juices needed for protein digestion, plays a vital role in building strong bones and rich blood, contributes to the production of RNA and is needed for the formation of visual purple!  Sources of preformed vitamin A (also called retinol) include butterfat, egg yolks, liver and other organ meats, seafood and fish liver oils. Provitamin A or precursor of vitamin A, carotene, is also a powerful antioxidant and can be converted into vitamin A in the upper intestines.  Vegetarians claim that the body's requirements for vitamin A can be met with carotenes from vegetable souces, but many people - particularly infants, children, diabetics and individuals with poor thyroid function- cannot convert carotenes into usable vitamin A7.

There are much more research availalble on this topic and it points out numerous disadvantages of diets devoid of healthy fats from animal sources.  I see elderly people on a regular basis, and those who are enjoying their life in the 90's and even 100's have told me over and over again that they grew up on a farm, eating fresh eggs, drinking raw whole milk, eating organ meats and fats from the animals their families raised.  I have  not to this day met a single vegan or vegetarian in their 80's or 90's.  I am also not aware of any group of people on our planet that has produced generation after generations of healthy people on strict vegan or vegetarian diets!  Dr. Weston Price has not found such a group of people either, and he spent ten years traveling and researching isolated peoples.  Many open-minded scientists and nutritional pioneers of today will attest to that as well.

What you need to know about preparation of whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts.

While consumption of whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts is highly beneficial to our health, proper preparation of these foods is equally as important. All whole grains contain a substance called phytic acid, which readily combines with iron, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc in the intestinal tract, preventing their absorption. Natural enzyme inhibitors found in whole grains and nuts in particular can interfere with proper digestion as well. Therefore, soaking or fermentation of whole grains, nuts and seeds prior to their consumption helps to neutralize phytates and enzyme inhibitors and make the nutrients more available to our bodies. Sprouting, overnight soaking and sour leavening can help us accomplish this important "predigestion" process in our own kitchens!  Properly prepared legumes are by far more digestable when their complex sugars are broken down by soaking or fermentation. Whole grains that have been processed via high heat and pressure to produce puffed shapes, flakes and such are quite toxic and should not be consumed.  Don't be misled by flashy labels featuring buzz-words "organic", "all natural", "healthy", etc. on boxed cereals and granolas. Contrary to the popular belief, granola is not healthy food. Like all procesed breakfast cereals, granola is made by the extrusion process which utilizes high temperature and high pressure, destroying many valuable nutrients in grains, causing fragile oils to become rancid, converting certain proteins into toxins and making the end result extremely indigestible. Many wonderful, time-tested recipes of soaked gruels and porridges are available to those who seek them. Five "health foods" you are better off avoiding and why.

While most conventional nutrition experts work hard to convince the general public about the benefits of certain health foods, their own sources of information and education are usually inadequate.  Corporate sponsorship tends to cloud the truth in the world of academia.  Medical training is challenging and exhausting and students seldomly have the energy or the curiousity to question the material that is presented to them by their teachers and mentors. As a result, many of our healthcare professionals, the people whom we trust with our health, are grossly misled during the course of their nutritional education.  Sandly, many of them eventually get too comfortable in their healthcare positions to think outside the norm and to teach others about real nutrition. You may be surprised to find the following "health" foods to be, in fact, very unhealthy.  I am offering a brief description of the five foods I encourage you to avoid as well as simple reasons why they are best avoided.

#1 - Whole Wheat Bread, Whole Wheat Cereals, Sprouted Whole Wheat Breads

Commercially available whole wheat breads and cereals should not be consumed.  The grains used in the preparation of commercial whole grain products are not soaked properly to neutralize naturally occuring enzyme inhibitors, therefore, they are practically indigestible to most of us.  Additionally, these grains and wheat especially, are often contaminated with mercury fumigants, pesticides and mycotoxins (such a mold) as well as heated to hight temperatures during their processing.  This applies to organic grain products as well!  High temperatures during processing destroy health benefits of the grains and turn many of their proteins into toxins.  Sprouted breads are best avoided as well (organic or conventional) because contaminated grain is used in their production and they are processed at high temperatures as well.  Commercial whole grain, whole wheat breads and cereals can contribute to the development of Celiac Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis as well as lead to miscarriages, infertility, and developmental delays in children.  Homemade flat breads, prepared properly, can be delicous and beneficial for your whole family.

#2 Vegetable Oils

Some of the worst oils you can consume are oils from corn, safflower, canola and soy.  These oils, contrary to the popular belief, offer no health benefits at all.  They offer a gross imbalance of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids to those who use them.  When used in cooking, these oils rapidly become rancid, which leads to the formation of many carcinogens, damaging free radicals and other toxic substances.  Extra virgin, unprocessed coconut oil is by far more suitable for cooking and offers numerous health benenfits to people of all ages.  Fats from animal sources, such as butter and lard, are also much healthier substiutes to corn, safflower, canola and soy oils.  Organic, cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil is a wonderful oil to use in salads and with lacto-fermented vegetable dishes.  Do not cook with olive oil because it does not retain its beneficial qualities when heated.

#3 Soy

Traditional societies who benefited from soy in their diets never consumed it in the form of soy milk, soy nuts, soy burgers and soy ice-cream.  The only form of soy that is truly beneficial to our health is fermented soy as in miso, tofu and tempeh.  Intake of fermented soy foods promotes digestive and intestinal health as well as protects us from chronic diseases such as cancer.  Avoid drinking soy milk and eating unfermented soy based foods.  Unfermented soy contains enzyme inhibitors and phylates, anti-nutrients that prevent absorptions of essential minerals in the intestinal tract.  Aside from being very difficult to digest, unfermented soy is a dangerous food associated with increased risk of breast cancer, kidney disease, thyroid malfunction (in women especially), weakend immune system (especially in infants fed with soy based formula) and life threatening allergies.  Soy consists of many complex chemical and structural compounds, including proteins, fatty acids and isoflavones.  Isoflavones are compounds that are also known as phytoestrogens because they are plant based substances that mimic human hormone estrogen.  One of the particularly harmful isoflavones to those with already compromised thyroid function is Genistein.   Some scientists argue that any form of soy, fermented or not,  should be avoided by those who have underactive thyroid function.  My suggestion to those who are living with underactive thyroid function is to look closely at their daily diet because this condition, like many others, can be completely reversed with proper nutrition.  Unfermented soy also lacks calcium and causes deficiency of vitamin D, therefore, it is harmful to the health of our bones and teeth.

#4 Pasteurized dairy products

The process of pasteurization virtually destroys all healthy qualities of milk.  It denatures its proteins and makes them difficult to digest, it destroys vital enzymes (including lactase necessary to digest lactose in milk), diminishes vitamin content and natural antibacterial properties of milk, and destroys vitamin B6 and B12.  Pasteurized milk is linked to tooth decay, heat disease, cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis, developmental dalays in children and allergies.  Research has demonstrated that calves fed pasteurized milk died prior to reaching maturity.  While raw milk is not commercially available in most states, the good news is that you can legally purchase organic raw milk in Texas directly from the farmer.  Sally Fallon also has compiled a list of helpful resources in her book "Nourishing Traditions", which I highly recommend to all those who seek great health via wholesome nutritional choices.

#5 Fruit juices

While they are tasty, fruit juices contain high concentrations of fruit sugar known as fructose.  Consumption of fruit juices on a daily basis over a long period of time often leads to insulin resistance, immune compromise, dental decay and weight gain.  Additionally, commercially prepared juices are usually contaminated with pesticides (especially apple juice and orange juice) and mold from damaged fruit.  Apple juice and orange juice are some of the worst drinks that are usually given by unaware parents to their precious children.  Organic fruit juices are better choices in terms of pesticide residues, however, they are often contaminated with mold and contain a high concentration of fructose like conventional juices do.  Many commercially prepared juices and fruit drinks also contain additives such as corn syrup (more sugar) and citric acid (which may contain MSG) as a preservative. You are better off eating whole fruit or making a delicious whole fruit smoothie with yogurt and/or kefir, a splash of organic  non-GMO vanilla extract and cinnamon!  How about that for an exotic drink for the whole family?!   One of my personal favorites is a banana smoothie with yogurt, a little bit of raw (never heated) honey, raw organic cacao powder and a pinch of freshly ground cinnamon or cardamon.

Does the use of a microwave oven have any effect on my health?

Most definitely, YES!  Sadly, microwaving food is one of the most common practices most people are used to.  Microwaves are found in over 90% of American homes and they are available at almost every work place throughout the nation!  While technology can certainly make our daily routines more convenient, it also can contribute greatly to poor health.  The use of a microwave oven is one of the unhealthiest components of popular food preparation techniques.  Aside from creating a negative electromagnetic field in your home, a microwave oven also destroys vital nutrients in food and alters food molecules rendering them non-digestable and even toxic.  Microwaved foods ulter the blood chemistry, decreasing the level of hemoglobin and increasing the level of cholesterol, which is the body's natural healing substance used at times of health crisis.  In 1991 a lawsuit in Oklahoma presented a case of a woman who died after being transfused with microwaved blood.  While the nurse, who microwaved the blood to warm it, clearly lacked education, this incident shows that microwave ovens do more than  just warm liquids and food.  Blood is often warmed prior to transfusions in hospitals, but, of course, this is not done in microwave ovens.  A baby's bottle should NEVER be microwaved, because many protective qualities of mother's milk are destroyed, many vitamins are reduced and vital proteins are denatured rendering them useless, difficult to digest and toxic  to the liver and the nervous system for the infant/baby.  Additionally, a microwaved bottle can feel cool to touch, but can be extremely hot on the inside, causing burns of mouth and throat.

What materials should I avoid in cookware and what cookware is safe?

The cookware you use on a daily basis is of critical importance to your health.  Our society's focus on consumerism and price bargains makes it easy for many cookware manufacturers to mislead their buyers on the quality and safety of their product.  Unfortunately, the materials used in cookware are not tightly regulated and if you are not familiar with the basic safety information you are likely to fall pray to those who are ready and willing to capitalize on your lack of knowledge and your deteriorating health.

Many stainless steel pots and pans have high content of nickel, a carcinogen that comes in contact with your food when there are any acidic ingredients in the pot (for example tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, etc.).  Approximately 65% of all nickel (Ni) is used in the making of stainless steel. Nickel provides a highter degree of ductility (ability to change shape without cracking) in the manufacturing process and it is added to stainless steel pots and pans to increase their resistance to corrosion. While nickel is helpful in the manufacturing process and the so called longevity of the pot/pan, it is not a desirable ingredient in our diets.  In truth stainless steel does not corrode or rust, but it does stain to some degree!  Test your stainless steel pots and pans with a weak regrigerator magnet.  If the magnet stays on the inner surface of the pot then the content of nickel is low.  If the magnet falls off, the nickel content in your pot is high and I don't recommend using it in daily cooking. The more magnetic your stainless steel pot is the less nickel it contains. Surgical grade stainless steel (a.k.a. Grade 316 stainless steel) pots and pens are said to be more resistant to corrosion, pitting and chloride environments.  This grade of steel is often suggested over non-surgical cookware (mostly Grade 304) by many chefs and nutritional experts because it is said to not leach nickel into the food when exposed to acidic ingredients. Some conclude that surgical grade stainless steel is the best cookware material to use, but others argue that there is not much of a difference in the two other than the difference in the price (surgical grade is much more expensive) when it comes to health benefits.   If you are interested in purchasing a stainless steel set of cookware surgical grade, you can purchase it from my clinic.  Personally, however, I do not use either of these materials in my daily cooking.

My personal preference is glass.  It does not leach any metals into the food and it is 100% safe.  My favorite brand is Corning Visions.  This line may not be in production anymore, but you can find these pots and pens on amazon and ebay.  They are made of pyrex glass and are safe to use on the stovetop.  You do need to exercise caution when washing them, of course, as glass is breakable no matter how tough it is!  I also enjoy cooking in my glassware pieces because I can clearly see the contents in them.

Aside from my glass cooking pieces I also have a fantastic stock pot and a frying pan by Le Creuset.   These gorgeous pieces, a 16 Qt. stock pot and a 10.5 in frying pan,  are made of quality cast iron and the stock pot is coated with high quality enamel on the inside.   This cookware is safe and non-toxic as far as I am aware (and I have done my homework on this subject).  There is some argument about cooking in cast iron frying pans and its relationship to iron toxicity, however, I have not experienced any iron toxicity symptoms after using my frying pan daily for over ten years.  My iron levels (even during my pregnancy) have never been low either!  The fact that our healthier and wiser ancestors cooked in cast iron pans daily is also of value to me.  For those of you who love a colorful kitchen, Le Creuset cookware comes  in a range of beautiful colors as well.  This cookware can be expensive, but it is worth your investment and I highly recommend it.  You can find it online for purchase if you wish.

Five simple and inexpensive steps you can take right now to get onto the path to vibrant health.

While there are many things we can do to improve our health through real nutrition, many of us need to start with simple steps to avoid feeling discauraged and overwhelmed.  I am offering five very simple changes you can make in your daily diet to enjoy greater physical and emotional health. These steps are:

#1 - Eat beef, lamb, game, organ meats, poultry and eggs from pasture-fed animals. Use animal fats, especially butter, liberally.

#2 - Avoid all refined sweeteners such as sugar, dextrose, glucose, high fructose corn syrup, agave syrup and fruit juices (commercial or homemade). Eat organic fresh fruits and vegetables in salads.  Use small amounts of raw, never heated honey or pure organic maple syrup (preferably Grade B) to satisfy your sweet tooth in desserts and herbal teas.

#3 - Avoid all refined liquid vegetable oils made from soy, corn, safflower, canola or cottonseed as well as all hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats and oils.  Use butter, coconut oil, palm oil, palm kernel oil, poultry fat or tallow and suet from beef and lamb for cooking.  Use organic extra virgin olive oil, expeller-expressed flax oil (in small amounts only), expeller-expressed sesame or peanut oils for salads.

#4 - Drink organic, whole milk (preferably raw), whole milk yogurt, kefir, cultured butter and whole raw cheeses (do not buy shredded cheeses) and organic fresh and sour cream.  Read labels... there is no place for corn starch in any of these foods!  Shredded cheeses also contain many chemicals and anticaking agents which are anti-nutrients.

#5 - Take Cod Liver Oil regularly to provide essential vitamin A, vitamin D, DHA and many other nutrients necessary for our bodies to function properly.  Be diligent about selecting this supplement from a trusted source.

Note: Premier Research Labs makes some of the highest quality products I have found on the market.  Their Cod Liver Oil, Olive Oil and Coconut Oil are of superior quality, sourced from the purest of sources around the globe.  If you wish to learn about these products and their prices, please contact me.

What do I need to know about drinking 1% and 2% milk?

Oxidized cholesterol is the only form of cholesterol that should not be consumed if you are to enjoy vibrant health.  While dietary cholesterol in red meat, eggs and whole milk is highly beneficial to our health (contrary to what our society is led to believe by the mass media, popular western medicine and food processing industry), oxidized cholesterol actually contributes to heart disease.  The foods that contain oxidized cholesterol are most powdered milk and powdered eggs.  Powdered milk is added to 1% and 2% milk.  The healthiest milk we can drink is organic, raw and whole and it does not contribute to obesity as so many people mistakenly believe!

Is "Resrict salt in your diet" a healthy advice?

Salt is critical to digestion and assimilation of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract.  Salt is also necessary for the development and function of the nervous system.  Children especially need salt in their diet for proper digestion of foods.  The need for salt varies according to each individual.  People with weak adrenal gland lose a lot of salt in their urine and need plentiful salt in their diet.  For others excessive consumption of salt may lead to loss of calcium (excretion of it in the urine) and, therefore, contribute to osteoporosis.  Excessive consumption of salt als depletes potassium, a major electrolyte in our body.  With this said, however, a  completely salt free diet is not a healthy diet unless you were raised on 100% raw foods and continue to eat 100% raw, organic foods!  Here is why.  Salt is a powerful enzyme activator in the intestines.  These enzymes are crucial to proper assimilation of nutrients from the cooked foods we ingest.  For example slt activates amylases, needed for the digestion of carbohydrates.  Salt provides not only sodium (which is another major electrolyte we need our body) but also chloride, needed for the manufacture of hydrochloric acid, proper functioning of the brain and nervous system.  What cannot be ignored in the subject of salt in the diet is the processing of salt.  Few of us realize that our salt, just like sugar, flour and vegetable oils, is highly refined and stripped of its natural beneficial qualities. Regular table salt that most Americans buy in the supermarket is a product of a chemical and high temperature industrial process that removes natural magnesium and idonine salts as well as valuable trace minerals that naturally occur in raw salt.  Furthermore, salt refiners add harmful aluminum compounds to keep the salt powder dry, potassium oidide in toxic amounts, dextrose to stabilize the volatile iodide additive (which turns the salt a purplish color) and a bleaching agent to restore the whiteness to the salt!  Is your head spinning?!  Sun dried sea salt is the healthy alternative to the description above.  It contains traces of marine life that provide organic forms of iodine.  Be aware that even most so-called sea salt is produced by industrial methods.  The best and most health-promoting salt is extracted by the action of the sun on seawater.  This natural salt contains only about 82% sodium chloride, about 14% macro minerals, particularly magnesium, and a plethora of trace minerals from the sea!  According to the research mentioned by the Weston A. Price Foundation, the best and purest commercially available source of unrefined sea salt is the natural salt marshes of Brittany.  Moist Celtic Sea Salt and Red Sea Salt from Hawaii are also excellent choices.  Finally, Pink Salt from the Mediterranean sea and Alaea Hawaii is my personal favorite.  You can purchase Pink Salt from me if you wish.  It is unrefined and untreated, produced via solar evaporation and sourced from unpolluted healthy sea waters!  May I add that it is also absolutely delicious?!

Is low fat and low cholesterol diet truly "heart healthy"?

We are used to hearing that heart disease in America (and I suppose the rest of the world)  is caused by consumption of cholesterol and saturated fat from animal products.  Nothing, however, could be further from the truth.  This statement, although sadly popular, has never been based on honestly evaluated scientific research and it has no support in the history of human health and nutrition.  Did you know that during the period of rapid increase in heart disease between 1920 and 1960, American consumption of animal fats declined but consumption of hydrogenated and industrially processed vegetable fats increased dramatically according to USDA-HNIS?  Traditional populations who consumed plenty of saturated fats from animal sources, organ meats and cholesterol rich foods enjoyed vibrant health and were heart disease free.  In my own nursing experience I have noticed that most of the people who had extensive heart troubles (coronary artery disease, arterial plagues, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, etc.) were also consuming very little or no saturated fats from animal souces, avoided eating eggs (used commerical egg substitutes), cooked with conventional commercial vegetable oils (mostly canola oil) and consumed mostly lean, white meats in their diets.  According to the study published in Nutrition Week (3/22/91) margarine eaters have twice the rate of heart disease as butter eaters.  Margarine is made from hydrogenated vegetable oils... some of the worst food we can consume and hope to be healthy!  "Smart Balance", "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" and many other butter substitutes fall into this category and can never be substituted for the health-giving properties of organic butter from happy, pasture-fed cows!  Eggs are nature's perfect food, providing excellent protain and a gamut of vitamins and important fatty acids as well as dietary cholesterol necessary for proper development of the brain and nervous system.  Populations who eat more eggs have less heart disease!  Did you know that egg substitutes are known to cause rapid death in animals?  Only oxidized cholesterol, found in most powdered milk and powdered eggs, contributes to heart disease.  Be aware that powdered milk is added to 1% and 2% milk!  Your best bet is to drink organic, raw, whole milk.  If you can't find raw milk, drink organic whole milk available in most supermarkets today.

What is the difference between synthetic vitamins and natural vitamins?

If you are taking a daily multi-vitamin, be aware of is in that bundle of "goodness"... or rather "badness"!  The vitamin pills you have been taking are most likely synthetic.  That's right... they have been created in a lab!  Most vitamin products available today are made from synthetic or isolated nutrients, - forms that do not naturally occur in nature.  They have to be made in a lab and often from toxic substances.  They only "mimic" the real vitamin forms found in nature.  These artificial forms might help in a the short run, but they can age you faster in the long run and give you even more undesirable symptoms.

Back To Questions

What about B Vitamins?

Many people don't know that most B vitamins are made from petrochemicals.  Toxic, cheap petrochemicals are used as a base to synthesize B vitamins that are used in most commercially available B complex supplements on the market today.  For real health benefits start taking whole-nutrient B vitamins and avoid taking synthetic B vitamins.  Synthetic versions will be listed on the label as follows: vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B5 (calcium pantothenate), etc.   In contrast, whole-nutrient B vitamins, as found in top quality brewer's yeast (Saccharomyces cervisae grown on molasses), for example, are not synthetic and provide a whole spectrum of naturally occurring B vitamins to our bodies.

Back To Questions

What is wrong with isolated vitamins?

In addition to being synthetic, isolated vitamins are missing all their naturally occurring essential synergistic co-factors and transporters.  A synthetic vitamin can stimulate a cell's metabolism, but it cannot upgrade or replace the cell's components with better quality elements.  A degraded cell is the result of this!  Even if you got "a bargain" on your supplements, sadly, your health did not.  For example, synthetic vitamin A (palmitate) is far less effective than natural vitamin A, contained in young grasses.  In addition to natural vitamin A, young grasses contain every nutrient known to sustain life and vitamin A palmitate does not.

Back To Questions

Why do I need to take supplements at all? Can't I simply eat high quality foods and get all the nutrients I need from them?

In the ideal world, yes, we should be able to simply eat well grown, powerful, nutrient-dense foods to get all necessary nutrition.  However, we no longer live in the ideal world.  As I mentioned on the Welcome Page, the farming practices of the last hundred years or so have reduced the quality of our soil tremendously.  We no longer can enjoy the same amount of iron in a bunch of spinach as our ancestors were able to, for example!  Our soil is grossly depleted of essential nutrients our bodies require and no matter how well our produce is grown in the United States, Mexico and many other countries, we simply can't get sufficient quantities of the nutrients these foods (organic or not) can offer to us today.  Until we re-mineralize our soil, pay it love and respect it deserves, and change our minds and lifestyles to match the natural world we belong to, we will need to take supplements  to achieve and maintain optimal health.  With this said, let there be no confusion about the beliefs I uphold, - getting nutrients from fresh and properly prepared foods and  home-made tonics is by far superior to taking multiple isolated supplements.  As a matter of fact, I suggest that you stay away from isolated forms of vitamins and nutritional supplements.  Real food derived supplements with all synergistic factors still intact are not as easy to find on the market as you may think.  Certain nutrients are also more beneficial when received from properly prepared, home-made meals than from a bottle.

What is Clinical Kinesiology and how does muscle testing work?

Many brilliant scientists and medical professionals have tapped into the new paradigm of knowledge by discovering hundreds of muscle testing techniques for communicating and healing through the inseparable energy linking mind, body and spirit.

The word Kinesiology or kinetics originated from the study of muscle and joint movement.  Based on the original muscle response research called Applied Kinesiology by Dr. G. Goodheart, D.C., in 1964, simple body movements were used to evaluate physical functioning of the body.  To see an online edition of The American Chiropractor magazine, featuring Dr. Goodheart's work, please click here

This area of Kinesiology was further explored with amazing discoveries and innovations by Dr. Alan Beardall, D.C. His work facilitated the evolution of Applied Kinesiology into Clinical Kinesiology in the 1980's.  Beardall's first paper presenting his exciting new findings was published in "Selected papers of the International College of Applied Kinesiology".  He also published five muscle testing instruction books from 1980 to 1985.

Dr. Y. Omura's M.D., ScD, unique background in experimental physics, medical electronics and basic and clinical medicine have led him to discover a medical phenomenon while he worked at the Cancer Institute of the University of Columbia in New York and in the ER at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey.   This phenomenon was that patients who touched a pathological (diseased or disturbed) area on their body with one hand could no longer hold their fingers together in the shape of an "O" on the other hand when the fingers were lightly but quickly pried open.   They could resist the opening of the "ring" while not touching a pathological area.  Based on his groundbreaking discovery, Dr. Omura invented the Bi-Digital O-Ring Test in 1978.  This test was used to change thousands of lives for the better!  You can learn more about Dr. Yoshiaki Omura, his work and the Bi-Digital O-Ring Test (BDORT) specifically, here.

While numerous studies have been conducted to confirm the validity and accuracy of muscle testing (when done correctly by a trained individual), the exact mechanism of its work remains somewhat of a mystery.   It is clear that there is a solid connection between the change in the muscle response and the brain.  The precise area of the brain responsible for the validity of musclel testing is not completely understood today.   Some sources point to the Reticular Activating System, others mention Medulla Oblangata and the Motor Cortex of the brain as the connection responsible for the success of muscle testing techniques.  The Bi-Digital O-Ring Test has been studied by numerous scientists  and it has been tested with the help of the latest technology and found to be valid and accurate.  While the test itself is very simple, it does require training and a practiced skill.  The BDORT was used as the foundation for the development of the Quantum Reflex Analysis (QRA)  by Dr. R. Marshall and Dr. L. Forbes.   When muscle testing is done correctly, it works 100% of the time and changes lives for the better!

Back To Questions

What is QRATM?

QRA  (Quantum Reflex Analysis) is a unique, highly effective system of testing the bio-energetic status of the body’s key organs and glands using a proven muscle testing technique of medically accepted reflex points.  During a QRA session, I will test key points on the surface of your body to determine their status.

Back To Questions

How can QRA help you?

Using QRA, I can quickly pinpoint problem areas and determine the precise nutrients and the exact amounts needed to rapidly restore the ideal cellular resonance for that area.

Back To Questions

What is an Interference Field or IF?

IF stands for “interference field”.  An IF is an area of the body where there has been previous trauma such as an old scar or a whiplash from a car accident.  Even though a trauma may be very old and is no longer painful, it can still act like a powerful short-circuit of the body’s natural energy flow to a specific organ or gland, thus creating many problems – often unresolvable even with many types of treatment.

Back To Questions

Do you have hidden IFs?

IFs are extremely common and are routinely missed on standard practitioner evaluations.  Often, the root cause of many problems is due to hidden IFs.  QRA can quickly identify if you have IFs and how to eliminate them.

Back To Questions

Can IFs be eliminated?

For the first time in history, QRA delivers a simple, self-administered method to permanently eliminate IFs and the cascade of problems they cause.  I will facilitate the elimination of IFs in your body and teach you the techniques you can use on a regular basis to strengthen the previously weakened areas.

Back To Questions

Thimble or Wheelbarrow of nutritional supplements?

Once your active IFs are eliminated, a thimble full of nutritional supplements can now deliver what a wheelbarrow full previously could not.  Once the “short circuits” (the IFs) in your biofield have been erased through QRA, the body can return to its ideal cellular resonance and most ideal health.

What is Biofield in simple terms?

A photon is an elementary discrete particle of electromagnetic energy that has no mess, no charge and has an indefinitely long time.  It is the basic unit of light.   Every substance in the world (either natural or man made) has a photonic signature (similar to an electromagnetic charge) around it, just as a human body does.  Therefore, any substance has the potential to affect the human body in a negative way (depleting energy) or positive way (enhancing energy) by interaction of the photonic energy frequencies of the substance with the body’s biofield.  A simple “definition” of biofield is the energy that surrounds our organs and body as a whole and unifies all life-giving and life-maintaining processes in our physical, mental/emotional and spiritual body.  Regardless of what we choose to call this energy, Qi (or Ch'i), spirit, life essence, aura, etc. it is present and it is very powerful.  I personally like the words of Robert Jacob, N.M.D., D. Hom. London, England: "The medicine of the future will be energy medicine..."  In Your Body Doesn't Lie, Dr. John Diamond states that, "... all illness starts as a problem on the energy level."

Back To Questions

How does O-Ring Test work?

The O-Ring Test (Bi-Digital O-Ring Test) is a simple, non-invasive test that evaluates a client’s opposing muscle strength in response to the interaction of the client’s own biofield with a substance being tested.  The Bi-Digital O-Ring Test was invented by Dr. Yoshiaki Omura (Japan).  QRA is based on the premise of the original Bi-Digital O-Ring Test.
When an unsuitable substance enters the biofield of the human body, there is a clash between it and the body’s field.  This repulsion creates a “jamming” or blockage of the normal bio-energetic flow in the meridians (energy pathways).  In this case, the O-Ring Test will test weak.  Conversely, when a suitable substance enters the body’s biofield, the O-Ring Test will test strong or in some cases even stronger than when no substance is tested at all (“testing in the clear”).

Back To Questions

What is cellular resonance and how does it affect our food and our health?

Cellular resonance refers to the biological biophotonic frequencies emitted by the cells of all living things.  Biophotonic means “emitting light”.  These frequencies are proven to be measurable and quantifiable, although typically unseen by human eye.  When the cellular resonance of a nutritional product is intact (or really the combination of resonance of all items contained within the product), then the emanation of the product’s own biofield will test strong when subjected to testing.  When the product’s biofield is compromised it will test weak when subjected to testing, and it is not recommended to be taken internally or put on the skin.  If a person consumes a product (or absorbs it through the skin) that has a fragile or compromised biofield, then the physiology of the person must use up some of its own precious, accumulated bio-energy in order to correct the disordered or toxic energy it just received.   When a toxic product is taken long term, even small toxicities could mean weakening and/or damaging the body.

I have been taking supplements for years and I still don't feel healthy... Why does this happen?

If your body is burdened by toxic exposure, physical traumas, surgery (or history of multiple surgical procedures), vaccinations, emotional scars and ongoing emotional trauma, etc. nutrition alone will not solve your health predicament!  You must take care of these issues before you turn to nutrition as a means of support for long lasting wellness.  While nutrition is a must on a daily basis, it is not as powerful when your body is dealing with non-nutritional burdens such as those I listed above.

Back To Questions

I took multiple supplements as well as repeatedly mud-packed areas of concern in the past... I still don't feel fantastic! Why?

Not everyone is created equally in terms of physiology.  Some of us are more delicate than others. There are people among us who cannot take supplements as easily and effectively as others without additional digestive or other help.  While some people can notice positive results right away, others may actually feel sicker or not see any improvement for a long time as a result of the lack of guidance and appropriate testing.   The key is to take the right supplement(s) and to get retested per the practitioner's instructions.  Precise compliance with your program and re-testing on the regular basis must take place during the course of your treatment.   It is also important to understand that the healing process of your body is not always a "feel good" experience.  For example, detoxification programs or elimination of a parasitic infection from a key organ  will naturally make you feel worse before you feel better.

Back To Questions

Supplements with toxic tag-alongs actually made me feel better for a while. How can this happen if toxins are supposed to make me sick?

It is true that some low quality supplements can in some cases make us feel a little better for a short while.  They certainly don't help us heal in the long run.  While the toxic quantities are so small that we don't feel the symptoms of toxicity right away, toxic tag-alongs do damage our cells.  We seldom draw the connection between our sickness and the toxins in our food and supplements over a long period of time. Your cells will take in any nutrient that’s needed for cellular work.  If you put toxic supplements into your body, your cells will absorb them and try to use them.  You will feel better in the short run, because the cells were starving for a nutrient and now got it.  However, along with this nutrient came a toxic additive and this toxic additive will work to destroy your cell over time.  Additionally, many nutrients in supplements we see today are synthetically engineered, - they are not the REAL THING that our cells were designed to work with.  Therefore, synthetic supplements lack the power to repair the cell’s DNA and the cell is bound to die much sooner.

What is the single and most important and often ignored ingredient of a human diet?

The single most important and often ignored ingredient for us, humans, is water!  It sounds very simple, doesn't it?  Did you have plenty of water today or are you dehydrated as you are reading this?  Human beings can survive without food for 30 to 40 days… so approximately 5 weeks.  Did you know that without water life would end in 3 to 5 days?  Our bodies are composed of 70% to 90% water, although the water content varies considerably from person to person and even from one body part to another.   The body’s water supply is responsible for and involved in nearly every bodily process, including digestion, absorption, circulation, and excretion.  Water is a universal solvent and, therefore, is a primary transporter of nutrients throughout the body.  It is necessary for ALL building functions in our bodies.  Water helps maintain normal body temperature and is essential for carrying waste materials out of the body.  We need to drink at least half of our body weight in ounces of water daily... that is if we measure our weight in pounds.  In other words, if you weigh 140lbs your minimum daily intake of water should be 70 ounces.  Of course, drinking an ounce for every pound of weight is the ideal daily intake of water for all people with healthy kidneys.  Replacing the water that is continuously lost through sweating, breathing and elimination is very important!

Back To Questions

Are healthy choices affordable to you? My lengthy version of "YES"...

Over the years I have been hearing different feedback from people about drinking high quality water, eating organic produce, taking time to cook nourishing meals, going an extra mile to educate themselves and find products that are not readily available for purchase in conventional retail settings.  More often than not I hear that the financial “burden” of these choices is just too heavy for people.   I would like to address this financial discomfort here with the hope that more people will recognize the value of their beautiful bodies and their overall health.

Please be very careful about putting a price tag on your health.  My personal opinion is that spending several thousand dollars on a water purification system that will provide you and your loved ones with high quality drinking water for decades is a worthwhile investment.  Buying high quality, unprocessed, non-irradiated, organic produce may take a few more dollars out of your pockets, however, this live, untainted food will add years to your youth and happiness.  It is no rocket science that pesticides, insecticides, radiation,  herbicides, chemical fertilizers and genetic manipulation, all degrade the quality of our food and in turn degrade our bodies!  Americans spend by far more on healthcare annually, while consumer unease with U.S. healthcare is growing steadily.  Americans are rapidly becoming the heaviest people on earth with over 60% of our population being overweight today.  One out every thirteen Americans has Diabetes and this number is rising.  60 million Americans suffer from Cardiovascular Disease today, according to the American Heart Association.  We spend more money on our healthcare than any other country, and yet, we are not healthier than any other country.  As a matter of fact, American healthcare system was recently ranked #37 worldwide by the World Health Organization.  The Healthcare Financing Administration predicts our healthcare spending to reach $16 Trillion by the year of 2030!  Take a good look at how much you spend on your health insurance on a regular basis and how much of that money is truly making your life healthier or insuring your health.

Further, take a look at your expenses.  Are you a proud owner of the latest cell phone model?  Do you have a Netflix account?  How comprehensive is your cable package?  And on how many TV sets do you get to enjoy that programming?  Do you drive an expensive or a brand new car?   How much money do you spend on a weekly or a monthly basis in restaurants?  Do your children play the latest video games (including the "educational" ones)?  Do you hold a gym membership all year around while a perfectly walkable street is just outside of your home?  Do you find money to spend on soda and stock up your refrigerator with soft drinks, juices and even bottled water?

My list of questions can go on and you get the picture here…  The most important question is this: “Is your health your priority?”  If so, than you will find a way to afford high quality foods and high quality water and you will find the time to prepare nourishing meals, drink plenty of healthy fluids, exercise regularly and enjoy life to the fullest on a daily basis.   The truth is that health IS affordable to us.

Back To Questions

How quickly can I notice the results of supplementation?

The answer to this question varies grately.  Your physical condition(s), mindset, the state of your living space, your social relationships, emotional makeup, and work - all play a role in the process of healing.  Everyone of us is unique.  It is unfortunate that we live in a society that puts great value on instant gratification.   While patience is seen as a virtue, it is not completely understood or practiced by many of us!  We take years, and sometimes decades, to get sick and when we finally “wake up” we look for solutions that will “fix” us overnight...  Nature simply does not work this way.

Please be patient and determined to restore your health.  Remember that supplements are just part of the solution.  Most likely you will need to make many changes in your nutritional routines and perceptions of what is truly healthy for you.  As a matter of fact, your entire mindset must change most likely.  A transformation of such magnitude will time time and only you know how long you need.

As for the supplements, you may not feel the action of every capsule or spoonful in a matter of a day. The immediate reactions take place on a cellular level and will not manifest in feeling well until all cells resonate together in wellness. Consider this simple example: your kidneys don't take a break from working, - they work around the clock for as long as you live.  While our kidneys process the water (just one of their functions) in our bodies continuously, the only time we actually feel their work is when we urinate.  The urination is the sign that our kidneys are doing their job!  Most of us don't feel an instant urge to go to the bathroom after drinking a glass of water and we accept the fact that our kidneys must be allowed time to process what we drank.  Our cells work on the same principle.  Proper nutrition is necessary for the complex cellular reactions on a constant basis. It takes years for many of us to feel sick as a result of exhausted, malnourished cells.  Respectively, it may take years for many of us to completely replenish the lost reserves of minerals and to repair the damaged DNA of our cells before feeling completely healed and vibrant.

Why are precise daily dosages of supplements important? Can I space them out as I see fit?

Precise dosages of supplements are important because they are the reflection of your body's precise daily needs.  Our cells carry out millions of chemical reactions on a daily basis and our bodies require certain nutrients in order to maintain all of our bodily functions in balance.   Spacing out the suggested dosages will not serve your body well, simply because its daily needs will not be met and the progress of your healing will be stunted as a result.

Consider a simple example. A baby has precise daily requirements of nutrients and calories in order to thrive and grow.  If the baby's mother only provides a third of these requirements and "saves" the other two-thirds of them for another day, her baby will not thrive after a few days and, naturally, the baby's growth will be stunted and malnutrition will send an open invitation to deformities, infections, and other imbalances.   Our cells work on the same principle.  The great news is that we now can test for the precise needs of the body and give it what it needs to heal and thrive.  As our physiology changes with the help of proper supplementation, the needs of our bodies change with time as well.  I highly recommend to be retested every several weeks in the course of your therapy in order to stay on track with meeting your health goals.

I strongly urge you to pay attention to the foods you consume on a daily basis.  Please be proactive in your research and accept responsibility of what takes place in your body in the form of disease or welness when you make your food choices.  The subject of eating healthy, chemically and genetically untainted foods presents a REAL concern in our society and in our country especially.  Your television set may be screaming something different into your ears via millions of commercials created by the food indurstry, however, please be mindful of the fact that it is not your health  that these companies have in their interest.  What giant food industry players in our country value the most is your wallet.
I recommend viewing a film called "The Future of Food"  produced in 2007.  Click here to watch this film.
